Main Use of my computer? Games

Summer is quickly approaching here in the United States, though there are days when I do not notice that detail. I am either inside my office all day, or I am forced to go inside because of Colorado Springs' famous afternoon thunderstorms. Well, that does not mean that I have to be bored while stuck inside. When I am not working, I can keep myself entertained for hours with my computer by using some of the fun software that I have installed on my system. With that theme in mind, I decided to devote this issue to computer games. I can bet that we all have at least one thing in common when it comes to computers, and that is playing the games that we have on our computer. Whether we like to play solitaire, pinball, shooting games, strategy games, etc., we all like to play some type of computer games. I've compiled a few bits of advice that I've learned in my experience.

A Helping Hand

  • This first bit of advice is for those who really enjoy action-oriented games and like to play the latest and greatest game out there. If you fit in this category, you need to have a machine to handle your needs. I would recommend making sure that your computer has at least 256 mb of RAM and a video card with at least 32 mb of memory, though 64 mb would probably be ideal. You really cannot enjoy the latest and greatest out there without the machine to match it, so do not waste your money on software that you can't even truly enjoy.
  • Now, most of you are not concerned about getting the latest and greatest, and I am right there with you. Most likely, your computer is equipped to handle your game playing desires. My advice is for you to stay content with what you have and find a better reason to upgrade your computer system than just for the purpose of playing games.
  • Finally, if you are like me, you prefer not to spend a ton of money on software. Believe it or not, there are many well-designed games that you can download and play for free. One of my favorite sites for checking out some great free games is ZDNet. There are hundreds of selections that can provide you plenty of entertainment for hours on end.
